There are so many types of PCB substrates, how many do you know?

The PCB circuit board is a necessary circuit board for equipment and appliances, and a necessary carrier for software implementation. Different devices have different PCB materials. For the rigid printed circuit board (Rigid Printed Circuit Board, referred to as RPCB), there are many types. PCB board reinforcement materials are generally divided into the following types:


1. Phenolic PCB paper substrate


Because this PCB board is composed of pulp and wood pulp, it is sometimes also called cardboard, V0 board, flame retardant board, 94HB, etc. Its main material is wood pulp fiber paper, a type of PCB that is pressurized and synthesized by phenolic resin board.


The characteristic of this paper substrate is that it is not fireproof, it can be punched, low cost, cheap, and relatively low density. We often see XPC, FR-1, FR-2, FE-3, etc. for phenolic paper substrates. And 94V0 belongs to flame retardant cardboard, which is fireproof.


2. Composite PCB substrate


This kind of powder board also uses wood pulp fiber paper or cotton pulp fiber paper as the reinforcing material, and is supplemented by glass fiber cloth as the surface reinforcing material. The two materials are made of flame retardant epoxy resin. There are single-sided half-glass fiber 22F, CEM-1 and double-sided half-glass fiber board CEM-3, among which CEM-1 and CEM-3 are currently the most common composite base copper clad laminates.


3. Fiberglass PCB substrate


Sometimes it also becomes epoxy board, fiberglass board, FR4, fiberboard, etc. It uses epoxy resin as an adhesive and glass fiber cloth as a reinforcement material. This kind of circuit board has a higher working temperature and is less affected by the environment. It is often used on double-sided PCBs, but the price is relatively expensive compared to composite PCB substrates, and the thickness is usually 1.6MM. This kind of substrate is suitable for various power boards and high-level circuit boards, and is widely used in computers, peripheral equipment, and communication equipment.


4. Other substrates


In addition to the three commonly seen above, there are also metal substrates and multi-layer board (BUM).


It is worth noting that we often see KB printed on the circuit board. This is the abbreviation of Kingboard PCB board. In addition to Kingboard, there are Shengyi SL, Taiyao TUC, Guoji GDM, Changchun L, Changxing EC, Hitachi H, etc.
